California governor Gavin Newsom signed S.B. 53, California's Transparency in Frontier Artificial Intelligence Act (TFAIA), which requires developers of large frontier AI models to assess and manage catastrophic risks associated with their AI models and report assessments to the state Office of Emergency Services (Cal OES).
